Background

NIST is seeking an Electrical Contractor with the following capacity and experience within their respective discipline to provide modifications to existing or new electrical infrastructure in administrative buildings and/or laboratory facilities. Modifications include installation of scientific apparatus.

Requirements

  • Work may include building and laboratory construction and modification as well as installation of laboratory equipment and associated facility services
  • The types of work that may be required (but are not limited to) of the contractor are as follows:
    • General Electrical Requirements
      • Install, or modify, electrical branch circuits for major renovations.  Circuits ranging from 120-volt single phase up to 480-volt three phases, utilizing various raceways including but not limited to: EMT, rigid conduit, and wire mold raceway systems.
      • Install 24, 48, 120/208, 200/380, 277/480, 2400, and 13,200 Volt service.
      • Install transformers ranging from dry to liquid filled type and operating in a three-spot network system.  Network transformers sized from 750 to 2,000 kVA are typical.
      • Troubleshoot, identify, diagnose, and repair electrical faults and problems.
      • Work from building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, engineering drawings, and electrical O&M manuals to plan and lay out the routing, placement type, size, gauge, balance, load, continuity, and safe operation of electrical lines, circuits, systems, equipment, and controls.
      • Install life safety systems for major renovations, including fire alarm (Simplex), mass notification, exhaust fan/fume hood interlock, gas monitoring, and laser safety interlock systems.
      • Install, or modify underground primary medium voltage power distribution systems including pad mounted switches and concrete encased duct bank infrastructure.
      • Troubleshoot medium voltage faults in underground distribution networks with manholes.
      • Make repairs to exterior and interior low and medium-voltage cables and splices.  To include splicing of paper insulated lead covered (PILC) cable.
      • Install, or modify interior electrical distribution systems in facilities such as medium voltage load interrupter switchgear, distribution panelboards, metal-clad switchgear lineup, and metal enclosed switchgear lineup.
      • Install, or modify uninterruptible power systems, generators, motors, motor control center, street lighting, alarms, direct digital controls, communication systems, and other electrical equipment and devices
